BEHRINGER INUKE BOOM“Why, yes, that is an iPhone docked on top of that sideways refrigerator. Would you like to hear it? Okay, just stand way, way, way over there, because the 10,000 Watts being pumped out by the Behringer iNuke Boom ($30,000) — no, it’s not really a fridge, and I heard that every time someone says ‘nuke’ and ‘fridge’ in the same sentence, an Ewok dies — are likely to bust your eardrums. What’s that? You’d like to take it outside? Well good luck, pal — it weighs 700 pounds. Why don’t we just turn it up louder, and run to the door before the song starts? Sounds like a plan.”
I was checking out www.uncrate.com and stumbled upon this AWESOME gadget called Crypteks USB Drive. Its secure puzzle lock will protect any sensitive information you may have stored on your pin drive, what a great idea! Go on over to uncrate and check it out for yourself!

At GRS one of the number one questions we get asked both at the shop and away from the shop is: Which cell phone should I buy? This is a hard question for us to answer sometimes because we all have our own favorites and we sometimes try to steer our customers and friends in the direction of what we like instead of what best suits their needs. The correct way to answer this question is to find out what the user is looking for in a cell phone/Smart phone and then to match a cell phone to the needs of the user. So I am going to break down some of the top smart phone operating systems and try to make it easier for everyone to navigate to a smart phone that suits their needs.
The easiest way to break it down is to first decide which operating system you would prefer. The four leading operating systems available in the smart phone market are: Apple iPhone OS, BlackBerry OS, Microsoft OS and the Android OS. Most of these operating systems are going to work very close to the same on the different smart phones they were built for. For example if you choose a BlackBerry smart phone most of the BlackBerry’s are going to share similar functionality regardless of the model you choose.
Let’s start with the BlackBerry smart phones first. In my opinion the BlackBerry phone really caters to the business person as it has a ton of great features that help the business professional stay organized on time. That doesn’t mean that the non professional won’t enjoy this phone. BlackBerry has been working very hard to build the BlackBerry application store and really market their phones to all users and most people who make the switch to a BlackBerry are rarely disappointed. BlackBerry offers both a touch screen smart phone and non touch screen smart phones which is nice because as we know some folks prefer touch screen and some don’t.
When you look at the iPhone operating system Apple did an amazing job at making a phone that is very complex, very easy for anyone to use. Even though more and more business professionals are migrating to the iPhone it’s my opinion that the iPhone wasn’t initially geared to the business person as much as the BlackBerry was. With the iPhone you get a smart phone that is packed with features and applications to help you with everyday life no matter what that entails. Apple offers the most applications to carry out your everyday life with over 350K applications in the iTunes app store. The iPhone has been one of the fastest growing smart phones ever released on the market. With 4 different generations of the iPhone and now on two different cell phone carriers, the end user has a little more freedom of choice which is nice. One choice you don’t have however when it comes to the iPhone is whether or not to use a touch screen. Every generation of the has been a touch screen and we don’t see that changing anytime soon…….but you never know because Apple always seems to have a trick up their sleeve.
Next we have the Android OS which is the newest player to enter the market. The Android OS works very similar to the iPhone OS and that is probably where they found their inspiration when initially creating it (that is a guess). The Android smart phones are also similar to the iPhone in they all have touch screen but many of them also include a QWERTY keyboard for those that prefer to type with keys instead of the touch screen. Android has done a very good job in getting in to the applications market and they are currently second to the Apple iTunes. In my opinion the Android phones are not as user friendly as the iPhone initially but like everything else once you learn to navigate it it’s a cake walk. The Android phones also allow the ability to personalize the phone to the end user with more ease, which is important to a lot of users these days. With something that consumes so much of your time users like to add a little flair that makes the device their own.
Last but now least is the Microsoft OS for smart phones. It seems over the last few years Microsoft has fallen behind in the smart phone race (again this is my opinion). Microsoft is probably the company that really pioneered the way for the PDA and smart phone PDA and based on the marketing I have seen of late it really seems like they are trying to reconnect with the user. Microsoft is similar to the BlackBerry in that they really cater to the business professional keeping you organized and on task. In the past I have found the Microsoft OS hard to navigate and not easy to use. However there is a very strong following of users for the Microsoft OS and it really comes down to personal preference.
To find the phone that best suits your needs you really just have to ask yourself what you are looking to use the phone for and how it can help you in your day to day activities. There are so many more features that each of these operating systems have to offer but I tried to really highlight the things that really separate each of them. I hope this will help you on your search for your next great smart phone.

The iTunes App store and the Android Market store share a lot of the same features in their respective stores. They both have common categories like the Top Paid, Featured and Top Free as well as many other categories to choose from.
I think the main differences that really set the two stores apart from each other is the fact that iTunes runs as an application on your PC or Mac and the Android Market functions in a website. Also the graphic design of the iTunes application is much more appealing then the web design of the Android Market.
Because I am an iPhone user I do hold some bias to the iPhone and iTunes store as it is what I have used for so long. When I researched the two stores a little more another difference I noticed is the absence of music in the Android Market. This is something that is nice about the iTunes store it’s a one stop shop for all of your iPhone and iPod needs. Android user can purchase music from the iTunes store and play it on their Android phone since Apple lifted the DRM off of the music files they sell in 2009. But it does require some knowledge of navigating to the files for copying them to your device since iTunes is only compatible with Apple devices.
If we decide to just compare apples with apples for now and look at the number of applications are available in each store. It appears that Apple still takes the cake with the number of available applications in the iTunes store. Apple currently advertises on the iPhone 4 webpage that they have over 350,000 ways to make your iPhone better with the world’s largest collection of mobile apps. Even though the Android Market has surpassed the 100K mark they still have a ways to go to catch up with iTunes.
Regardless of which phone you choose one thing is for sure. There are plenty of applications on the market to help you with almost anything.
